Let's talk about Jen…

Let me start this episode with Jen, a 45-year-old sales manager. She told me she had been busy for two days reviewing documents to put together a proposal, with a deadline quickly approaching. And I thought: What? Two days of... doing nothing? So I showed her how she could do this in just a few minutes using ChatGPT and NotebookLM with specific prompts... But then, I expected enthusiasm, but what I got was... Jen staring at the screen with a blank look: "It's just too much... I don't think I could do this like you do…"

That moment opened my eyes. Most productivity advice still focuses on doing things faster, better, and more efficiently. Meanwhile, a new type of professional is emerging – the Superworker. Someone who works seamlessly with AI. And they are called Superworkers, not because they work harder, but because they have learned to think differently about how work gets done.

There's a new player in town: the Superworker!

To be honest, when I was facilitating a Time Management workshop last month, I felt something was off. In front of me were twelve brilliant professionals, taking notes on SMART goals, Getting Things Done, and inbox management… And I could see disbelief in some of their faces. Some of those professionals were disengaging because... they were emerging Superworkers, of course!

Then it hit me! This was like teaching people to build better horse-drawn carriages while the first cars were already rolling off the production line.

And rest assured: Superworkers will be trending in 2025! It's the year this gap becomes impossible to ignore.

5 Levels of Superwork

Let's look at how work is transforming, in 5 distinct levels. You'll likely recognize which level matches your current situation.

Level 0: Business as usual

This is where Jen started, and it might feel familiar to you too. Your desk probably has those trusty sticky notes with passwords, and you've gotten really good at organizing your email folders. When that enthusiastic colleague mentions AI in every meeting, you smile and nod politely, thinking it's just another tech fad. Sure, you've heard of ChatGPT – maybe even tried it once – but it felt overwhelming. Sometimes you wonder if you're falling behind, but your methods still work... mostly.

Level 1: First steps

Something shifts at this level. Maybe it's curiosity, maybe it's necessity, but suddenly you're willing to experiment. You discover that AI can actually write better emails than you, saving you precious time each day. That presentation you were dreading? Microsoft Copilot just gave you a head start, making the blank page less intimidating. You begin to see possibilities in your daily tasks, and what used to take an hour now takes just minutes. It's not perfect yet, but it's exciting.

Level 2: Building momentum

This is where things get interesting. Your meeting notes basically write themselves now. Those customer emails that used to pile up? They're getting answered while you sleep. Reports that used to take days now take hours, and your colleagues are starting to notice. They're asking what your secret is, and you realize you've built a collection of small but powerful workflows that are transforming your workday.

Level 3: Reimagining work

This is where the real transformation happens. You're no longer doing things "because we've always done it this way." Your entire project planning process looks different now – more strategic, less administrative. Team meetings transform from endless status updates into genuine strategy sessions. The best part? You're finally tackling those problems no one ever had time for before. Your work feels different because it is different.

Level 4: Generating true value

This is where work gets exciting again. Instead of drowning in administration, you're spending your time on innovation. Your creativity has room to breathe because the routine tasks take care of themselves. Those ideas you never had time to develop? They're becoming a reality. Other teams are noticing your success, and they're coming to you for guidance. You're not just working differently – you're redefining what's possible in your role.

So, let's face it. The future of work is Superwork. And for those who are still clinging to the old paradigms of work… we have news for you: the Superworkers will take your job!

Luckily, as you're learning how to become a Superworker, you're setting yourself up for success!

Remember Jen? Two weeks after our first meeting, she sent me a message: "I tried that document thing again. By myself. It wasn't perfect, but it saved me three hours." That's how it starts.

Here’s your next step, depending on where you are:

If you're at Level 0, get started: Pick one task you really dislike. Not the most important one – just the one that annoys you. Next week, we'll turn that into your first AI experiment.

And if you're at Level 1, this is where things start clicking. You've tried one or two tools and you're seeing results, right? Great! Now, document your process. I know that sounds boring, but trust me, it’s going to be worth it. When you turn experiments into repeatable workflows, that's how you build momentum. A consistent process is what takes a casual user and starts transforming them into a Superworker.

Now, folks at Level 2? You've got a few solid workflows in place, but here’s the challenge – how can you scale them? Maybe there's a task you've automated for yourself. Could your whole team benefit from it? Try sharing it with one colleague. You might be surprised at how much easier it makes their day and yours. Because let’s face it, the real magic happens when AI goes from personal efficiency to collective impact.

Level 3 is where things really start shifting. You're no longer bound by "how things have always been done." Maybe, like we discussed earlier, you've restructured meetings. Or you've drastically cut down your time spent on those repetitive, soul-sucking tasks. The question now becomes, what are those big problems you can finally tackle? Think of them as opportunities to innovate—not just for productivity, but for creativity too.

And at Level 4, where you're leveraging AI for strategic thinking and creating new value, work feels meaningful again. It's not just about doing more; it's about doing impactful things. Think of the entrepreneur I worked with last year. She started with a dozen disconnected AI experiments – creating emails, basic task automation, that kind of stuff. Fast forward six months, and she had developed a whole new service offering for her clients. Something she never thought she’d have time to create. That’s the power of Level 4 – it’s not just about what you’ve gained, but what you’re giving back, through ideas, innovation, and leadership.

So, where do you start? Look at today – literally, today. What's one task you can approach differently? Maybe you use ChatGPT to summarize a document or explore how Copilot can streamline your spreadsheets. Whatever it is, experiment. And then experiment again. That’s how progress works – one small thing, then another, and one day you look back and think, "Wow, I can’t believe I used to do things the old way."

And listen, becoming a Superworker isn’t just about efficiency. It’s about freedom. Freedom to focus on what excites you. Freedom to create and innovate. AI is like this amazing assistant that clears your schedule so you can get back to what really matters. And that, my friends, is where the future of work gets exciting.
