Focus is motivation with intention

Focus is motivation with intention
The art of focus

"A story by Karl"

Today, like every morning, I didn't just set my alarm to wake up; I set it for an adventure. My positive intention? A little hour of walking, a ritual that brightens my day and sharpens my focus. With every step, I feel more connected, not just with my body but also with my goals. And of course, a touch of music is essential, whether it's the soundtrack of nature or, like today, the audiobook of Dan Koe, "The Art of Focus."

Why this book, you might wonder? Well, like many others, I sometimes find it challenging to keep my attention focused. A good friend, Franco Torres, knew this and suggested I lend my ears to the wisdom of Koe. And boy, what advice it was! I came across a quote that stuck with me: "Focus is motivation with intention." Bam! That was the moment I decided to embark on a little experiment.

I picked out a tree, not just any tree, but one that stood a certain distance away on my path. The goal? To maintain my focus on this tree, regardless of the distractions that popped up along the way. And believe me, distractions are always there, just like the plot twists in our own life stories.

The first time was as if my thoughts had a life of their own, wandering from one idea to another. But I didn't let that discourage me. After all, repetition is the mother of skill, and so I repeated the exercise over and over. With each attempt, my ability to maintain focus grew, a bit like the tree I had chosen as my focal point, strong and steadfast.

This walk became more than just a morning routine. It became a lesson in focus, an exercise in awareness. The realization that distractions are everywhere, but it's our choice where we direct our attention, was a revelation. Just like in life, and certainly in my work, it's easy to get swept away by the distractions that come our way. But the true art lies in choosing what we focus on.
